At the heart of Knowle West Alliance is the Working Group. Made up of local residents and representatives of local organisations, the group meets bi-monthly, for two hours on a Wednesday morning to consider local issues and direct the work of Alliance.
The meetings are informal, solution focused and collaborative. Everyone with a connection to Knowle West, who shares the ethos of working together, is welcome to attend.
Why join the Working Group?

Meet the Working Group
Members of the Working Group share their perspective:
Gail Bevan
What you like about Knowle West? “That everyone pulls together offering support when needed. I have generations of my family live in the area.”
Why you enjoy being part of the Working Group? “It’s a great way to engage and learn about what’s happening and be part of future planning for the greater good especially as I’m a local resident. It’s a good way to connect to other organisations and local residents and hear what they are up to. That KWA has grown bigger than what it was possibly thought it could in the early days and continues to do so. No subject is off the table. A really great variety of training is on offer for free.”
What the benefits of being part of KWA are for you? “I’ve really enjoyed leading the KWA pre-loved clothing giveaway. We’ve managed to help lots of people. What started as a uniform exchange has grown into children’s and adult clothing donations along with toys.
Being part of the working group meetings has made me feel less anxious about being sat in a meeting, especially with people I don’t know.”
How you think KWA benefits the community?
“Information gets shared in a way that the everyday person can understand especially around all the development that has been happening, I believe this makes more people ask questions.
It believes that KW residents deserve a better future. It shares information and helps makes connections as well as sharing information about accessing support and other community organisations.”
Tim Jones
“I’ve been in Knowle West Alliance from the start and it’s a great way to work together and bring good stuff into Knowle West.”
Ian Watt
“Hi I am Ian Watt and a local active resident, especially interested in planning and development. I enjoy connecting with a wide cross-section of the community through KWA and trying to work with as many people as possible for our friendly community.”
Roger and Angie Allen, co-leaders, Lee Abbey community
“Knowle West Alliance is important and helpful. We love the way It brings together key organisations and residents to work together for the good of the estate”
Angie Allen
“Hi, I’ve been living here for over 4 years and love Knowle West.
I’m part of a Lee Abbey small community. We enjoy getting involved in community events and love seeing how KWA is working together for the good of our area.
I enjoy being part of the working group as we discuss local issues and try to come up with some good ways to bring positive change.”
Paul Coyne
“Hello my name is Paul Coyne and I am a third generation Wester with two more generations after me living here too.”
Why do I live here? “The simple fact is I can’t afford to live anywhere else but I have never wanted or felt an urge to live anywhere else anyway.”
“I have been involved with the working group for some years now, this mainly started as I am quite nosy and community orientated at heart. I can see myself still being involved in KWA for many years to come as I see it as a really good way to intervene and cause change to benefit myself, my family and the wider community”
Ellen Havard
“I work for Knowle West Media Centre as Head of Young People’s Programme. I love the sense of humour in Knowle West – there are lots of people up for having a laugh.”
“The Working Group, is a place where people come together because they want to make a difference in the community. Everyone cares.”
“The benefits of being part of KWA are a link to lots of different people and organisations, all with the goal of helping Knowle West to thrive.”
“The Alliance does lots of joining up opportunities with residents and organisations – without them there’d be lots of great things happening, but it might be harder to find out what!”
