Small Grants panel
Small grants will still be decided by a panel of local residents. Our aim is that the panel will meet in the week beginning 20th April, applicants will be notified as soon as possible after the panel have made their decisions.
Once a decision has been made you will receive the funding within two to four weeks into the bank account you have provided us with.
Note and important change
If you are Successful you will receive 90% of funding, as soon as possible after panel decision has been made and once we have received bank details. The remaining 10% will be paid on completion of a short evaluation at the end of the project.
Why are we doing the 90/10 payment process?
We want to encourage evaluation. Evaluation and feed back is really important, it shows the funders how money was spent, it encourages them to fund again and it encourages new funders to come forward. To ensure evaluation we are now including this additional step. We are happy to answer questions about this, please get in touch.

How previous Grants have been spent
In November we distributed small grants and some larger grants focussed on art. These are some of the successful applications: A Nature and Well Being group spent their grant on plants and compost. A local resident used the grant to fund printing a book of local walks. Belfast Community Garden received money to support them with liability insurance. Other successful applicants included: A women’s coffee morning. Fruit boxes for nursery school children. Children’s arts club.
Last year, we distributed some Safer and Friendlier Community Grants in collaboration with Bristol City Council Community Development Team funded by the Police Crime Commissioner.
This is specifically for grassroots action locally that aimed to promote a safer and friendlier community in Knowle West. Inns Court Community Centre were successful in their application for a grant. The grant funded two lunches, bringing local people together. One lunch was part of their VE celebrations. The other, in November, was an Open Day at the Inns Court Community & Family Centre together with an invitation to their Annual General Meeting. They said:
“Both were massive successes, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy themselves for free, meet and connect with other people from their neighbourhood and chances to explore projects and activities and resources that they didn’t know about.”

Follow up
If you are successful and when you have had time to get your project organised we will ask you to send us a photo of the project and short paragraph, or a short video. This feedback is important as it helps us show funders how the money was spent, this helps us get future funding for small grants. We also want to let the local community know how funds have been distributed and may share photos, videos and information on on our social media or our website so please ensure you have permission from the people in the photo or video.
