Knowle West Alliance and Bristol City Council Community Development are facilitating equalities conversations with local residents and organisations.
The network of residents and organisations came together after engagement sessions, events and supporting residents who felt isolated and disconnected from their community. From community conversations we have identified:
· Some people feel unsafe or unwelcome.
· Often there is nowhere for groups to meet in a safe space.
· People aren’t visible and don’t use community services.
· It is difficult to help link new people into the community as we don’t know where they have moved to, and we don’t know if they need support.
Meetings include exchanging information, making connections, and looking for solution-based actions to support and engage people from different equalities groups in Knowle West. The network has also secured funding to provide small grants to resident-led action around improving equity in the community.
We are working towards making our community inclusive, the equalities we have identified so far are:
- Race & Ethnicity
- Marriage & Civil Partnership
- Disability
- Religion/Belief
- Age
- Sexual Orientation
- Sex
- Gender Reassignment
- Pregnancy and Maternity
- Carers
In the past year we have discussed our vision, our values and intentions for the group, with the main aims being:
- Safety
- Collaboration
- No-one is left out.
In our last meeting we discussed, how do we know if everyone feels part of the community, so our question is – Do you feel included? If you’d like to join in our conversations, please contact info@kwalliance.co.uk to find out our next meeting place and time.
