Community Event March 2024

In March Knowle West Alliance, Knowle West Media Centre, Filwood Community Centre, Bristol City Council Levelling Up Fund came together to provide a community event. It was held at Filwood Community Centre and Hannah, KWA Team Co-ordinator (and local resident) was a huge part of the organising the day. Hannah shares her view of the day below:

Load and Proud Knowle West

Filwood Community Centre came alive once more on 8th & 9th March 2024. On Friday the 8th, the Bristol City Council Levelling Up team hosted a whole school assembly with over 150 children from Christ the King School, in full world book day regalia. Year 4 students presented their ideas for a new children’s library proposed for Filwood Community centre.

On Saturday Filwood Community centre was transformed. Crazy shapes being rocked in the photo booth, energy bike, illustrators, big bubbles, hands on crafts, massages, monsters cooking, activity taster sessions and so much more. All FREE.

72% of the stalls and activity providers were Knowle West based, giving new promotional and engagement opportunities to local businesses and services. We also welcomed experts from further afield – like Bristol Energy Network who offered free advice on household energy saving methods.

More than 500 people came through the doors aided by 112 crew and local volunteers. I was personally over the moon to see new (and old) faces, we had achieved our goal of bringing joy, connection and raising awareness of What’s On locally to even more residents and giving them a platform to voice their opinions.

Filwood Chase, Knowle West’s very own history society, brought memorabilia which sparked story telling and memories. This complemented the design team learning, how local voices are influencing their designs for the redevelopment of Filwood Community Centre and the Broadway.

Excitement and apprehension would be the two words to describe my feelings leading up to the big day. This was the first event I had ever been involved in, it was magical, so rewarding. If you would like to get involved in future events please contact us info@kwalliance.co.uk.

We asked people who came along what 3 words described the day:

  • Energising, Warm, Smiles
  • Great, Good, Beautiful
  • Fun, interactive, all FREE
  • Happy, variety, good
  • absolutely fabulous 10/10
  • fun, exciting, inclusive
  • enlightening, positive, encouraging,
  • fun, connected, uplifting
  • fun, busy, educational
